Chemical Dependency Services

Chemical Dependency Programs at Laureate provide a safe, comfortable environment for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of alcohol and other substance abuse/dependence disorders. Our programs are available for adolescents and adults who experience chemical dependency problems and/or other mental health problems.

The comprehensive facilities allow for truly individualized treatment and an active approach to treatment for patients and their families. Our programs embrace the disease model of addiction and we utilize the principles of Twelve Step Recovery for living, thinking and behaving.

Patients and their families learn about the management of the disease and are encouraged to develop healthy lifestyles and relationships.

Acute/Inpatient Detox
This is a medically-supervised level of care, directed by psychiatrists and focused on safe, effective detoxification and addressing co-morbidity which may exacerbate the use of mind-altering chemicals. The inpatient treatment team consists of physicians, nurses, chemical dependency techs and case managers trained in treating chemical dependency. This team continuously evaluates the patient’s progress and issues. The case manager works with the patient and family to develop an individualized treatment plan.

Inpatient treatment stays are generally brief, yet active and structured. Patients learn how to recognize their disease by participating in group therapy session, individual counseling and an introduction to a twelve step program. The goal of inpatient treatment is to safely detox the patient from his/her chemicals, aid the patient in awareness of his/her addiction and refer to the next level of treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment (IOP)
This program is designed to allow each participant to achieve permanent changes in his/her alcohol and drug using behavior. The program is often used as a first level of intervention or for those who are stepping down from an acute level of care. This is accomplished by addressing issues of lifestyle, attitude and behavior which can undermine the patient’s effort to cope with life without the use of psychoactive substances. Group, individual and family-focused therapies are utilized.

Patients will be eligible for discharge when the following conditions are met or when it is determined by members of the treatment team that continued participation will not be beneficial in achieving the following goals:
  1. The patient’s emotional or behavioral problems have stabilized to the extent they can be managed through individual outpatient visits.
  2. The patient is able to recognize the severity of his/her chemical dependency and apply the essential skills necessary to maintain sobriety with post-treatment supportive care.
  3. The patient has integrated therapeutic techniques which address craving and relapse issues.
  4. The patient is functioning adequately in the areas of work, social responsibilities and primary relationships.
The program is composed of twelve hours of treatment per week. This program is available in the morning, afternoon or evening. The program is designed for the patient to receive the needed treatment with little interruption to work or family responsibilities.

Relapse Program
Available in the morning and evening, this program is designed for those patients who have a history of relapse or have issues which put them in a position where relapse is likely to occur. This program is focused on aiding the patient in identifying high risk situations, feelings and behavior which exacerbate the relapse process and in developing a relapse prevention plan.

Continuing Care
This program meets once weekly for a year and is available to those who have completed primary treatment at Laureate or who are referred to Laureate through local and national treatment providers and referrals.
